Those natural makeup vibes

Hi. So this is me. It makes me very nervous to stick my fifty-something face up on a blog. I feel much more comfortable showing you photos of my recipes!

At this point, you may be wondering what in the heck I am doing, blogging about makeup! Never fear, I’m still a food blogger, slinging recipes to help you heal from the inside out via the autoimmune protocol (aka autoimmune paleo). This is just a fun little joy ride outside of all things food, but very much within the realm of healing.

I never gave much thought to what I was putting on my skin, until I was prescribed a medication that was administered transdermally. A lightbulb went off in my head. “If medicine can get into my body through my skin, what else is getting in there???”

Little by little, I have made trades in my lifestyle to improve my health, and the state of my autoimmune disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Diet was only the first thing to change.

Then I found out about Paleo makeup. Today, I’m giving you my honest review of Araza makeup, the first line of makeup in the world to become Paleo certified.

Some things to know about Araza

  • The makeup follows similar guidelines to the Paleo diet, meaning that it’s free of gluten, dairy, legumes, grains, and artificial or harmful ingredients.
  • It uses organic ingredients, probiotics, and plant-based ingredients.
  • Ingredients are natural, and sustainably and ethically sourced.
  • They have a recycling program for their packaging.
  • You’ll need your own applicators/brushes to apply powders and shadows.
  • They sell sample sizes, too, so you can try things in small amounts!

What I love…and what I don’t

Araza Citrus Illuminating Oil

Citrus Illuminating Oil

Rating: 🥰 Every night, I put half a dropper of this on my face before going to bed. It smells divine, and it feels so lovely, like a total indulgence, like one last act of self-care before bed.

All-in-one Coconut Cream Foundation

Rating: 🥰 I’ve never had a foundation that actually felt good on my skin! It feels so soothing. You just dab some all over your face (it’s a very thick cream), and smooth it around. Between the oil I use at night, and this foundation I use in the morning, my skin is dewy. DEWY, I tell you. I’ve gotten three compliments on my skin in the last week. That has NEVER happened before.

Jojoba-infused Mineral Powder Foundation

Rating: 🥰 I use this as my foundation in the summer because it’s light, but still gives good coverage. In the winter when the air is drier, I use the cream foundation. I might dab a little bit of this over the cream as a powder.

Coconut Cream Concealer

Rating: 😕 The reason for this rating is that it is oily, and since I need coverage under my eyes, the concealer caused my mascara to run. 🥺

Primer + Finishing Translucent Clay Powder

Rating: 😐 It works well, but the color of the powder is white – too light for my skin. Even in small amounts, it makes me look a little too powdery, or ghosty. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

Eyeshadows

Rating: 🥰 I have reeeeaaaallly sensitive eyes, and always had trouble with shadows, so I was skeptical to try these. But they’re great! No rashes on my eyelids! Fabulous colors! Even shiny ones! Be aware that if you buy samples, they come loose. Full size ones are pressed.

Lip glosses and lip balm

Rating: 🥰 You guys, the glosses! They are just the right combination of slick and creamy. They have staying power. There is the slightest hint of mint taste/smell. For years, I have used petroleum jelly on my lips. I wonder how much petroleum I’ve ingested over the years(?). Well, no more. I LOVE these glosses!

These are all the products I’ve tried so far. As you can see, I truly, truly love most of them. Though Araza initially sent me samples to try, I have become a customer!
